BB7 MTN

Brand: Avid

The absolute benchmark for mechanical disc brakes in mountain biking, the BB7 MTN descends from the ball-bearing “Ball Bearing” (BB) brake that Avid launched around 2003, the BB7 designation being formalised in the mid-2000s (SRAM guide dated 2005). Its signature: the dual pad adjustment, an inboard dial and an outboard dial that make it possible to compensate for wear and centre the caliper without tools — the inboard pad stays fixed while the outboard one, pushed by the ball mechanism, presses the rotor against it. Fitted in 74 mm Post Mount (51 mm IS adapter supplied) with the Tri-Align/CPS alignment system and compatible with long-pull MTB levers, it established itself as THE trusted mechanical brake of long-distance travellers and pragmatic mountain bikers, and is still in the catalogue more than twenty years on. An “S” version with stainless steel hardware also exists.
