BB7 Road

The road and cyclocross version of the legendary BB7, this mechanical caliper takes over the ball-bearing mechanism and the dual pad adjustment of its MTB counterpart, but with a cable pull ratio matched to short-pull road levers (SRAM RED, Force, Rival, Apex and equivalents). As early as 2003, Avid offered its Ball Bearing brake “with road lever capability” to open the disc up to road riders and cyclocross racers; the BB7 Road is its direct heir. At a time when the hydraulic disc did not yet exist on the road, it was THE disc brake of the pioneers of cyclocross, of nascent gravel and of bicycle touring, reputed indestructible and adjustable at the roadside. Still in the catalogue, it comes in an “S” version (stainless steel hardware) and had a lightened “SL” version with titanium hardware (~2012, about 25 g less per caliper).
