Code
Brand: Avid
A four-piston hydraulic disc brake launched by Avid in 2007, the Code was born for downhill and freeride: shown at Interbike in late 2006, it takes a head-on run at the reign of the gravity brakes of the day with a two-piece forged caliper with four pistons of differing diameters (dual-diameter), fed with DOT 5.1. The first generation (2007-2010), recognisable by its central banjo, mounts in Post Mount and pairs with large 185 or 203 mm rotors. In 2011 Avid overhauled the Code (redesigned lever, ~410 g in 160 mm Post Mount) before the Code R version joined it in the catalogue. The Code line continues today under the SRAM brand, but it is indeed this Avid model that laid the foundations of the family.
