A more affordable version of the Code launched for the 2012 model year, the Code R takes over the two-piece forged caliper with four pistons of differing diameters from its elder, but pairs it with a lever using TaperBore technology designed for consistent braking without fade on long descents. Still fed with DOT 5.1 and mounted in Post Mount, it is a little lighter than the Code (about 395 g in 160 mm Post Mount front) while aiming at the same playground: DH, freeride and committed enduro. It remained in the Avid catalogue until SRAM took over the Code family with its own generation in 2017.
