Standard

Brand: Cyclo

The Cyclo Standard was the flagship early touring derailleur of Albert Raimond's Saint-Etienne firm, mounted under the chainstay and worked by a distinctive double-cable system: the two cables rotate a sleeve with a helical groove, a pin riding in the groove pushing the chain across the freewheel, with no spring 'normal' position at all. The mechanism was said to have been inspired by machine guns Raimond examined during the First World War. Heavy and fiddly to set up, it was strong and reliable once installed, making it the derailleur of choice for serious tourists and tandemists through the inter-war years.
