Brand: Dia-Compe

The Dia-Compe 980 is a rim cantilever brake made in Japan by Dia-Compe, listed by VeloBase with "Dia-Compe" on the front of the arm and "980 Japan" on the back. It became common original equipment on mountain bikes, touring bikes and cyclo-cross bikes of the early 1980s, and period examples came with springs for outboard or inboard cantilever boss positions. The design was reissued by Dia-Compe as the DC980, which the maker's 2021 catalogue lists with cold-forged aluminium arms, dual spring tension adjustments and 980-PAD brake pads. Retailers still position it for mountain bikes, classic randonneur builds and cyclo-cross bikes.
