Louise
Brand: Magura
The Louise was Magura's mainstream hydraulic disc brake for mountain bikes, introduced in the late 1990s and one of the brand's biggest commercial successes; by the time the completely redesigned 2004 model appeared, Magura claimed more than 500,000 units sold. It is an open hydraulic system with an expansion chamber, using a fixed twin-piston caliper with automatic pad wear adjustment, an aluminium master cylinder with a radial piston and an anodised aluminium lever blade, running on MAGURA Royal Blood mineral oil. Magura's 2005 technical table gives 398 g per brake including the rotor, a 12 mm master cylinder piston against 2 x 22 mm for the caliper pistons, and 160 mm rotors front and rear, with International Standard (IS 2000) caliper mounting and a Postmount option at the front only. Magura now refers to this generation as 'Louise V1' and lists it among the products for which servicing and spare parts are no longer available.
