Ten-speed XTR rear derailleur with the Shadow RD+ stabiliser, the 2012 addition alongside the RD-M980 which stayed on plain Shadow. A friction clutch in the cage holds back chain slap on descents and releases with a flick of its lever for wheel removal. The long SGS cage handles 41 teeth of total capacity and a 36-tooth sprocket, the medium GS cage stopping at 35 teeth. Anodised aluminium body and 11-tooth sealed-bearing pulleys; the RD-M981 and RD-M986 took over in the next catalogue.
