High-quality road crankset from Sakae Ringyo (SR) of Japan, produced during the late 1970s and 1980s. The Apex used cold-forged, polished and anodized aluminium-alloy arms with a five-arm spider carrying bolt-on chainrings. Common road versions were a 42/52 double on a 144 mm bolt-circle with 170 mm arms, running on a JIS square-taper bottom bracket with 9/16 x 20 tpi pedal threads. Touring variants (Super Apex-3) added a triple chainset on a smaller bolt-circle.
