The 2011 model year of the Karate Monkey, Surly's 4130 CroMoly steel rigid 29er, the first to go disc-only after the cantilever studs were dropped. The curved seat tube tucks the rear wheel in and keeps the chainstays at 431 mm across all four sizes, while the rigid fork remains corrected for 80 mm of suspension travel. Horizontal rear-loading dropouts keep a derailleur hanger, so the bike runs as a singlespeed or with gears.
