188
Brand: Zipp
The 188 was Zipp's road rear hub from 2009 to 2014, paired with the 88 front hub and used on the 101, 202, 303, 404, 808 and 1080 wheelsets. It runs an oversized 17 mm axle inside a shell made of Zipp's proprietary Z310.9 aluminium alloy, with Swiss-made sealed cartridge bearings, seals and a KammNut collar that allows bearing preload to be set after the quick-release has been clamped. Drive engagement is by individually sprung pawls acting on a 32-tooth ratchet ring, and the freehub bodies are not interchangeable without a dedicated conversion kit. The V9 revision of 2014, released in September 2013, moved to larger 61903 hub bearings, a wider non-drive-side flange and virtual 3-cross lacing on both sides.
