808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher

Clincher version of the 808 Firecrest, the 81 mm-deep wheel Zipp redrew around the blunt-tailed rim profile introduced in 2010. Rather than adding clincher sidewalls to the tubular, Zipp reworked the shape for the airflow specific to clincher tyres and took it out to 26.5 mm wide, with a heat-resistant resin that limits rim temperature build-up under braking. In 2012 trim it is quoted at 1,759 g per pair on 88/188 hubs, with a 16.25 mm tyre bed and a recommended 21 mm tyre. Its depth and crosswind manners made it a fixture on non-disc-legal courses such as Kona.
