Vainqueur 999

Brand: Weinmann

The Vainqueur 999 is Weinmanns celebrated centre-pull rim brake caliper, introduced around 1957 and produced in vast quantities as original equipment on European road and touring bicycles through the 1960s and 1970s. Made of forged aluminium alloy, it uses a straddle cable and yoke actuated by a conventional brake cable, with a quick-release at the cable stop. It was offered in two arm lengths distinguished by their reach: the shorter 610 and the longer 750, the first two digits indicating the mid-point of the reach in millimetres. Early examples used a single continuous spring coiled around both pivots; from late 1962 each pivot received its own spring.
